Queensbury middleweight Faraz Akram has been stripped of his national title after refusing to face his next opponent on October 24th in West Sussex.
The 21 year old from Reading had initially agreed terms to face the only man to have beaten him inside the league in the main event of the competitions Never Back Down promotion, but after discussions with Akarm and his coaching team broke down Akram stated that he no longer wishes to face Wanderema.
Akram also stated if that he didn't secure fights with British champion Gareth Gardner or rival John Hefford then he would not be interested in competing on any future shows.
Talking about the situation from to shows offices in West Sussex league director Ross Minter said " Its a real shame that Faraz has decided to back out of his agreed showdown with Joel Wanderema, and maybe we picked the wrong name for the show in hindsight"
"After talking with Faraz it appears he wants to be the one to choose his opponents and feels he deserves more, but unfortunately the league does not work that way and with Joel Wanderema already holding a win over him that is the opponent he had to meet"
"I'm sure Faraz will continue to improve and will have a bright future in boxing, but sadly that future will not be in the Queensbury Boxing League so I'd like to wish him luck in his career"
