Former Queensbury national Light Middleweight champion Nathan Leeson is targeting an explosive return to action next month in London, when he laces up the gloves at the famous Alexandra Palace.
After a 12-month hiatus from competing in the league, the Northampton Light Middleweight will step through the ropes in the capital on Saturday March 14th to face Suffolk rival Matty Piper at the League’s first big arena show of the new season, and Leeson is confident the cream will rise to the top when the pair collide on the big evening of boxing.
The 26-year–old was last in action at the end of 2013 when his challenge for the British title ended in stalemate against co challenger Dan Maguire after the judges were unable to split the pair in a contest Leeson and the crowd thought he had won, but after being sidelined with injuries and issues outside of the sport, the man dubbed “Too Slick” believes the time is now right to return to the ring and make his charge for title glory.
Talking ahead of the big night in London Leeson said: “ I can’t wait to get back in there now as I’ve been out for over a year and I’m ready to make big things happen for me now.
“Matty Piper is a serious threat to me and I’m treating this fight like I’m challenging for the British title, so there will be no shortcuts taken as I prepare to meet him in London.
The talented Northampton stylist had become one of the competitions biggest names during his previous stint competing, but by Leeson’s own admission he never really took the training as seriously as he should and believes things will be different this time around.
“ This time around I won’t be taking any shortcuts with my preparations and I will be doing everything properly, he said.
“No one has seen me at my best and before I’ve been reasonably fit coming in to the fights, but this time you are going to see the real Nathan Leeson and I’m looking forward to entertaining the crowds and putting on a show.
