It may not be the main event at the league's first Challenger Boxing Series show of the year taking place on Saturday February 23rd at the Effingham Park Hotel, but the league's fans can be guaranteed of something explosive when Welterweight contenders David Cove and Steve Brazier step into the ring to face each other in a contest that will have wider implications in the novice title race.
Nineteen year old Cove raised a few eyebrows on his league debut back in October of last year when the exciting prospect systematically dismantled Bournemouth's teak tough Mark Verity over three intense rounds of action to claim a unanimous points victory. The impressive manor in which Cove disposed of Verity did not go unnoticed, and with the 10st 7lbs division already stacked full of talent, Cove could gatecrash the title party if he can again produce that kind of display in just over a week and a half’s time.
But if Cove is to remain unbeaten and continue to move up the league's rankings, he will first have to take care of business on the 23rd against Bournemouth's Brazier, who's relentless, aggressive fighting style will offer the young contender all he can handle in a real 50/50 showdown. With Brazier hungry to return to the league and make a real statement after racking up some impressive wins outside of the league's ranks over the last twelve month's, and the fact Cove's explosive win over Brazier's stablemate Verity has only fuelled his desire to put on the performance of his career, this contest has all the ingredients to produce an absolute cracker.
Tickets for the league's big night of Challenger Boxing are priced at £35 for the standard seats, and £45 for the Ringside seating and are available from both boxers, or by calling the league's ticket information line on 07547 022 244.
