Queensbury Boxing League - Cullen Has Eye On The Prize

Luke Cullen says his training has reached a new level of intensity ahead of his sizzling rematch with rival Tommy Leroy.

The 18 year old from Greeenhithe in Kent was last in action back in November when he went toe to toe with undefeated regional light welterweight champion Leroy in a pulsating encounter that had the whole arena on its feet.

But with the judges unable to split the pair in what was unquestionably one of the most entertaining fights of 2017 in the Queensbury Boxing League competition, the duo will return on Saturday February 3rd to battle it out for an even bigger prize when the clash for the national title.

With both Cullen and Leroy already locked away in their respective gyms preparing for their hotly anticipated sequel, Cullen feels this time around his rival will know he’s in for the toughest fight of his life when they meet for the second time.

“ I’ve watched the first fight back and I felt I won 3 of the four rounds, but they were close rounds and Tommy did come on strong in the last one, commented Cullen.

“ Tommy had this big reputation of knocking everyone out and I surprised a lot of people by staying in the pocket with him and trading shots the whole way through the fight”

“ After the fight I felt I had won the title but the judges saw it as a draw, and now I’ve got the opportunity to face Tommy again”

Cullen’s title collision will headline the league’s packed 2018 season opener taking place at the Copthorne Effingham Park hotel in West Sussex, and the thought of capturing one of the competitions biggest prizes and etching his name into Queensbury history has kept Cullen focused throughout the festive season.

“I’ve never wanted to win a fight as much as this and the intensity I’m putting in to ever single training session reflects how badly I want to win, continued Cullen.

“ I think Tommy is going to come out the same way and throw lots of big bombs and try to knock me out, and I think he’s going to be just as confident as he was in the last fight”

“The difference this time around is he knows from the last fight I’ll be right in front of him taking his best shots and putting the pressure right back on him, and I know what I need to correct from the last fight to beat him”

“ Winning this title would mean the world to me. You can’t predict anything in boxing but I know I’ll be more than ready for the fight and I can’t wait to get in that ring on February 3rd”

Cullen’s challenge for the Queensbury national light welterweight title features headlines the explosive 2018 season opener at the Copthorne Effingham Park Hotel on Saturday February 3rd. For further information on the event call the box office on 0203 751 8599 or visit www.queensburyboxing.co.uk
