Queensbury Middleweight Daniel Spencer say’s securing his shot at the National Middleweight title against champion Kieran Leinster on April 19th is a "Dream Come True".
The twenty four year old stonemason from Kettering is hoping he can carve out his own piece of history in the UK’s premier boxing league later this month when he takes on undefeated champion Kieran Leinster in a mouth watering clash at the Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and after snapping the undefeated run of fellow Middleweight contender Jimmy Mizon last time out, Spencer will be hoping his showdown will see him become the first champion from Kettering to lift a National title in the competition.
Spencer made his debut in the competition back in 2012 beating current Super Middleweight sensation Artur Gorka on points during an epic encounter, but spells of inactivity during his time in the league have hampered his progression up the rankings, but with Spencer now fully focussed on seizing the biggest opportunity of his boxing career he now believes this is the perfect time to get his shot.
Talking ahead of his big night against Leinster Spencer said: “ This is by far the biggest test of my boxing career, but it’s a dream come true to be boxing for the National title so I’m really excited.
“ After the Mizon win I’ve had some time off with a lot of things going on outside of the ring including buying a house and doing that up, so boxing has taken a back seat, but since I’ve been back in the gym I’ve never felt better and I’ve also been working on lots of new things that I feel will give me a great chance of winning this belt.
“ I’ve always been a slow starter throughout my career and don’t normally get going until after the third round of a fight, so boxing over the championship distance is going to really suit me and I feel this is the perfect time for me to get this shot and I can’t wait to get in there now.
Spencer’s National Middleweight title shot against Leinster will feature as the co main event on the packed line up of Easter boxing at the Queensbury Boxing League’s Resurrection promotion at the Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and to check out the full line up of the show click HERE.
