Queensbury Boxing League - Gardner To Face Marcon For British Title

British Light Middleweight champion Gareth Gardner will now face former England amateur international Tommy "The Machine Gun" Marcon this Saturday night in the main event of the league's Every Second Counts promotion, after previous opponent Frank Smith was ruled out of the contest after sustaining damage to his right hand in training.

Marcon, 27 from Pontefrack West Yorkshire will challenge Gardner for the vacant British Middleweight belt recently vacated by former champion Ruben Giles, and Marcon enters the showdown off the back of an impressive career in the unpaid ranks that saw him rack up forty plus competitive outings whilst capturing an NABC title and England call ups along the way.

Marcon was due to join the competition later this season, but will step straight in against Gardner at the Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey in what promises to be another explosive showdown against the most decorated boxer in the shows history.

Talking ahead of his big debut in the competition in front of the British Eurosport camera's Marcon said, " This is going to be an exciting fight and I'm coming into the league to fight the top boys in the division, and Gardner represents the best so he's who I want"

"I've watched a couple of his fights in the league and he's got a great work, but looking at those fights he doesn't look like he hits that hard so the power is not that much of a concern"

"The thing that excites me about this fight is we are very similar in the way we box. Gardner won't have to come looking for me on Saturday night and that's what is going to make this all action"

"I'm an aggressive come forward body puncher that loves to get stuck in, and I can't wait to get in there now"

Gardner versus Marcon will headline the league's Every Second Counts event this Saturday night at the Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, which also features National Middleweight champion Kieran "Lights Out" Leinster face old rival John Hefford, Ben Davies takes on Tom Dolan for the Regional Middleweight belt, and in novice Welterweight title action Ashley Dansie and Anthony Ayinde prepare to put their simmering rivalry to bed when the clash for the title..
