Regional Lightweight title challenger Andre Grant will now face Brighton's Lloyd Martin for a chance to claim the vacant QBL Regional Light Welterweight title on Saturday June 18th, after original opponent Thomas King was forced to withdraw from their rubber match due to injury.
Farnborough's Grant had been gunning for King after their long awaited rematch back in April failed to produce a winner, when all three judges were unable to seperate the pair after an epic showdown at the league's Reisser Edge Of Glory event, but the former novice Light Welterweight champion will now turn his attention to Martin who has promised to grab his unexpected title shot with both hands.
"I was absolutely gutted to find out that Thomas King had pulled out with an injury, as we've got unfinished business to sort out, but thankfully Lloyd Martin has stepped up to fight me which still means June 18th will give me a chance to get a title, said a frustrated Grant.
" I don't really know too much about Martin other than he's a lot taller than me, but I won't be taking him any less seriously than Thomas King as I need to beat him to make sure the fight against King happens later on this season"
Martin was last in action at the weekend when he produced the performance of his league career to outpoint Maidstones Charlie Adams in a cracking dust up that had the entire arena on its feet, and the Brighton stylist was quick to grab the unexpected opportunity to face Grant when he got the call from the league's Director of Matchmaking Ross Minter.
" This is going to be my toughest fight so far in the league, but I'm up for the challenge and can not wait to face Grant for the title on June 18th, said Martin.
"I've watched him in the league a few times and he's got a great jab and a good tight guard which I'll have to work around to break him down, but I can box, fight and go in the trenches if needed, so we'll see on the night if he's prepared to do the same"
Grant versus Martin will feature on the packed undercard of the professional debut of former 3 weight British champion Gareth Gardner, and for ticket information contact the box office on 0203 7518599.
