Brad Halford say’s he is preparing for war later this month when he steps through the ropes at the Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey to make the first defence of his Queensbury Southern Area Light Welterweight championship.
The thirty two year old won the title back in March when he produced a shut out performance to beat veteran Shaun Walton over four rounds to claim the vacant title, and Halford say’s he is expecting an “All guns blazing” approach from challenger Shane Graham who will be travelling down from Northampton to take on the big hitting champion.
Halford was at ringside back in April to see Graham produce a spirited display on his league debut against Bognor’s talented Louis Harrison, and although Graham only managed a draw in that contest, the champion believes Graham had done enough to take the verdict and will be a very tough assignment when the pair meet on the 29th of June.
“Winning the belt last time out was fantastic in front of so many of my fans, and I was surprised by the way I dominated the fight given the fact Walton was such a decorated amateur and former pro, commented Halford.
“It’s great to be coming back to Epsom to make the first defence of the title I won there, and I’m expecting an all guns blazing start to this fight after seeing Graham in action in his last fight.
“From the little I’ve seen of Graham I know this is going to be a really exciting fight, as he likes to throw lots of leather and he goes for his shots, but as I’ve said to the league’s promoters it doesn’t matter who you put in front of me as I’m looking to make the move up to English level next so I will fight who I need to fight to get that title"
“Training wise I’ve had a nice rest after the win back in March and I’m starting to really pick things up now and increase my time in the gym, so we will be working on the game plan that my team and I believe is going to beat this guy and as its my first defence I’m taking this fight really seriously"
Halfords first defence will feature as one of chief supporting contests to the British Middleweight title showdown between Croydon’s Gareth Gardner and Northampton’s Danny Lineham that headlines the stacked line up of boxing.
