Hornchurch Middleweight John Hefford has promised to take title rival Kieran Leinster out of his comfort zone on February 8th, when the duo collide in the opening round of the league’s 2014 season.
Hefford will meet fellow undefeated contender Leinster in a winner takes all clash for the vacant Queensbury National Middleweight title in the main event of the first show of the year, and after getting over the disappointment of having to withdraw from his scheduled title showdown back in November due to injury, Hefford feels confident he will be too much for his fellow challenger when the pair finally step through the ropes.
Hefford’s last competitive outing in the league back in September saw him narrowly miss out on claiming the Super Middleweight version of the belt when he could only manage a draw against Northamption’s Jason Felix in a gruelling war over five rounds, but the Hornchurch stylist believes he will be more effective down at Middleweight and has already worked out the blueprint to claim the win.
“It was really disappointing when I had to pull out of the fight in November due to damaging my wrist in sparring, but I’m now focussed on this new challenge and I believe I’m a level above anything Leinster has faced before, commented Hefford.
"I’ve watched bits of Leinsters last fight against Matt Piper and he looks a sound technical fighter, but I thought Piper was letting him get his shots off and that is something I just won’t let him do.
“Training wise everything is going really well and I even ran the seven miles to my mums house on Christmas day just so I wouldn’t miss out on my training, so I’ve got the plan in place on how I am going to beat him but its still going to be a tough fight but one I really can't wait for now.
Hefford’s title showdown will take place at the Millennium Arena in the Copthorne Effingham Park Hotel in West Sussex, and for more information on the full line up and ticket information click HERE
