Former professional Ice Hockey player Chris Lawes is gearing up for the biggest fight of his boxing career next weekend, when the Essex based heavyweight travels down to the K2 arena in West Sussex for his chance to claim the league's novice heavyweight title.
Lawes, 29 from Southend will reignite his rivalry with man mountain Steve Willis on Saturday December 3rd on the undercard of the competitions spectacular 2016 season finale.
After already squaring up to the 6’ 9” giant this season in a contest that the left the judges unable to separate to pair, Lawes is confident this time out he’ll prove who the better man is by winning the title.
“ Last time out I fought Willis at 24 hours notice and I'd not prepared to fight someone so tall, this time around I’ve had plenty of notice and I think I’ll make easy work of him,” said Lawes.
After the rival’s first encounter ended in stalemate back in October, Lawes has locked himself away to focus on the rematch, and is confident come fight night there will be no doubt about the result this time.
“ In the first fight Willis had a good couple of flurries and that was it," continued Lawes
"This time it will be a different story as I know what will be in front of me, and I know he’s going to walk on to shots”
“I rocked him a few times in the last one, and the only difference this time is I’ll follow them up and jump on him when I’ve hurt him”
“ I’m feeling fit and really ready for this now, and even though I’m having to travel for this fight, it’s going to feel like my hometown with all the support that I’ve got coming to watch”
