Queensbury Boxing League - Jacobs Ready To Fulfill True Potential

Undefeated professional light middleweight Tommy Jacobs believes a more disciplined approach to his future fight preparations will see him fulfill his true potential in the sport.

The 29 year old captured the British Master light middleweight title last time out after having to endure a torrid night against old rival Chris Wood, and after assessing his performance against the Middlesborough man Jacobs insists the only man that will beat him in the ring will be himself if he fails to prepare properly again.

“ It was a great fight against Chris and I’ve got to admit he was much better than I gave him credit for, but once again I made it harder for myself by cutting corners with my weight cut, said the big Colchester United fan.

“ In all honesty I should have beaten him convincingly as I’m sparring guys much better than him and making them look pretty ordinary”

“My biggest battle has always been with the scales as I’m a greedy pig outside of the gym, but I’ve realized now that if I’m going to fulfill my potential then something needs to change”

Jacobs can continue his rise up the rankings if he can dispose of his next opponent Andy Pirie in the first defence of his title at the famous Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey on July 1st, and the champion knows this time out he needs to look impressive.

“ I’m not going to sell myself short this time around and I’m targeting a big performance on July 1st, continued Jacobs.

“ Pirie was offered the fight a while back and his coach said he didn't want that fight, but now they’ve changed their tune so maybe they watched the Wood fight and think they are in with a chance of beating me”

“Realistically I want to be challenging for bigger titles and I’ve got my eye on Scotland’s WBF World champion Craig Docherty if I can continue to win, so once I take care of Pirie it would be a dream to fight Docherty in Colchester next year and win a world title in front of my home town fans.

Jacobs British Masters title defence will feature on the league’s All Fired Up promotion on Saturday July 1st at the Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and for ticket availability contact the box office on 0203 7518599.
