Queensbury Boxing League - Larkin Up For Noble Task

QBL debutant Andrew Larkin has insisted having already shared the ring once with his next opponent will not affect his mindset entering the fight.

Larkin takes on fellow debutant Noble Dominic in next months ‘True Grit’ bill, and the two sparred in a QBL trial session to earn their place in the league.

Despite entering the fight with the unusual advantage of sharing the ring with his future opponent Larkin has insisted ‘sparring is sparring’ while further recognising the challenge he faces in June.

“I know I’m going to have to be on form, he’s good” Larkin said.

“I looked him up on Youtube as well but I don’t take anything from sparring. Sparring is sparring and you’re only ever at 50 percent you can’t take anything from that.

“It’s so much different when you’re in smaller gloves and you have the pressure on you, it’s another ball game.”

Despite acknowledging the threat Dominic possess the 33 year-old has insisted he is relishing the challenge.

“I know I’ll have to be on my best form and show 110 percent” Larkin said.

“This is why I joined the Queensbury Boxing League to fight the best fights out there in my weight division and it’s a good matchup.

“He’s very good but my trainer doesn’t seem worried. He’s a tricky southpaw and he’s fast, probably everything you don’t want for a debut fight but I’m looking forward to it and performing to the best I can be, I’ve got a good chance and I’m already in there.

“I wanna be patient I don't want to go in there a be wild, I’ll test him out and go for it and if the knockout comes then it comes if it doesn't then it doesn't.”

Larkin enters the fight having competed in six bouts before including five for Felbridge ABC and the Dorking man has cited the importance of the training he has received from coaches John Warren and Chris Stone along with the rest of his team.

“It’s a massive, massive help to have everyone who trains down there.

“It’s a real tight knit group and they’ve given me loads of opportunities such as training and trialing for the Sussex squad, get a lot of sparring with different clubs and it’s just helped a lot it’s brilliant.

“What I’ve done for my age is spar a lot and I feel it’s helped me out a lot I’m not going in there blind I know what it’s like to box under pressure in front of a lot of people and that makes me really confident.”
