Queensbury Boxing League - Leinster Did Not Want This Rematch Says Hefford

John Hefford say’s there is absolutely no doubt in his mind he will beat old rival Kieran Leinster next month and claim the Queensbury National Middleweight title in the process.

The Hornchurch stylist will face Leinster for the title in the co main event of the league’s big night of championship action at the Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey on September 27th, and after suffering his first and only career defeat at the hands of the champion back in February, Hefford says he has never been more determined to win since first lacing up the gloves.

In their first encounter Hefford was dramatically stopped in the fourth round by a thunderous right hook that ended the argument there and then, but Hefford believes their return will produce a very different result, and is 100% confident he will relieve the champion of his belt and undefeated record.

Talking ahead of the clash Hefford said, “ I’ve never been so determined to win a fight in my life, and I’m absolutely buzzing for this, so come September 27th I’m 100% confident I’m beating Leinster.

“I’m not making any excuses for the result of the first fight as Leinster is a very strong fighter, but I came into that fight with a rib injury that hampered my performance, but this time its going to be very different and although its still going to be a tough fight, this time I’ll be putting it on him.

Since joining the league back on Season 3 Leinster has established himself as one of the divisions hottest properties stringing together numerous stand out performances that have seen him rise up the rankings of the highly competitive Middleweight division, but Hefford believes the champion will be facing a completely different fighter this time around and he will be ready for anything.

“Personally I don’t think Leinster really wanted this fight again as he knew he was up against it in the first fight, but that was me at only 50% so when he faces me 100% fit. strong and ready I just can’t see how he can win.

“Although I lost the first fight I felt in control even though the injury was causing me problems, so this time around I’ll be going through the gears and it’s going to be a very exciting fight.
