QBL title challenger Gavin Lissenden has promised there will be no ‘mistakes’ the next time he steps into the ring, as he prepares for the biggest fight of his career early next month.
The 33 year old returns to action on Saturday February 6th to challenge for the vacant regional super middleweight title against old rival Jason Chay in the co main event of the league’s opening show of the season, and Lissenden believes this time around the judges will be in no doubt who the winner is.
Lissenden was last in action against Chay back in October at the league's Never Back Down promotion when after three hard fought rounds the judges were unable to separate the pair in a thrilling clash, but after the disappointment of not taking the win on his league debut, Lissenden is confident he’s learnt from his mistakes in the contest and will return home to the Southmoreton boxing club after the fight as the champion
Talking from his training camp to Queensbury TV the title contender said, “Last time out I underestimated Chay and he was much better than I thought he was going to be, but this time I’m fully focussed on the job and I’m coming to get that belt”
“In the first fight I slipped in the second round which was counted as a knockout and I lost focus and the game plan went out the window, but even with that count against me I still thought I won the fight”
“This time around training has been perfect and after the last fight I only had a short break and was straight back in the gym getting ready for the fight, and now that I know more about Chay and what he’s really like there is no doubt I will beat him and be the second Queensbury champion out of the gym”
Lissenden’s title showdown will take place on Saturday February 6th in the Millennium arena at the Copthorne Effingham Park Hotel in West Sussex, and tickets are priced at £35, £60 and £75 and are available from the QBL box office on 0203 751 8599.
