Olly Bennet secures first round KO and targets light middleweight titles

Queensbury Boxing League - Olly Bennet secures first round KO and targets light middleweight titles

JACK FIGG

Light-middleweight Olly Bennett sent a huge message to the division with a first round stoppage of Dan Jones on the ‘Road to Glory’ bill.

Bennet wasted no time as he unloaded on Jones early in the opening session forcing his man to the canvas.

As Jones failed to beat the count Bennet secured a first round stoppage, and after the bout he claimed the plan was initially to take the contest into the latter stages.

“To be honest I was just going to box him and get the rounds in then stop him in the third and show my skills, but I hit hard, so as soon he felt it he went down,” Bennet said.

“I felt really good, I wanted to make a statement which I obviously did stopping him in the first round and now I’ll move onto bigger things.”

As Bennet secured his 11th stoppage win in 15 fights, the light-middleweight claimed he is targeting anyone with a title and hopes to be on the ‘Capital Shakedown’ bill, staged at the Troxy, in London, on November 24.

“I’m ready now, I’ve had 15 fights now, 11 knockouts so I’m ready, whoever the champion is I’m coming for them,” he said.

“I’m hoping I’ll get on the November show or whenever the next available show is, I’m coming for whoever has a belt.
