Queensbury Boxing League - Right Time Right Place Says Lawrence

Middleweight contender Oliver Lawrence says he will be ready to take on the best the division has to offer this year as he readies himself for his ring return next Saturday night.

Lawrence, 25 from Maidstone in Kent was last in action in the competition back in 2016 when he produced the performance of his career to outclass veteran Paul Morby at the famous Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey.

But just when it looked like he would finally get his shot at his first league title a serious hand injury forced him to take a break from the sport and his dream of capturing his first title had to be shelved.

With Lawrence now injury free and hungrier than ever he will lace the gloves back on at the 2018 season opener in West Sussex next Saturday night as he bids to make this season his biggest yet.

“ The hand injury was a big blow for me but I’m back training harder than ever now and I’ve got my motivation back, said Lawrence.

“ I’ve been back in the gym training for 3 months now and I feel fantastic, so I really believe I will be right up there with the divisions best this year.”

Before Lawrence can target some of the division’s biggest names he will first have to navigate his way past his opponent on Saturday night on the undercard of the big Too Close To Call promotion headlined by young light welterweight rivals Tommy Leroy and Luke Cullen, but Lawrence is confident he’ll return with a big win and put himself right back in the mix.

“ My return to the ring feels like the right time for me and I want to make a big impression on Saturday night.

“ I’ve been sparring with former league fighter Ricky Campbell who is 20 kilo’s heavier than me and we’ve had some great rounds, so my confidence is high and I’m feeling really good.

“ Confidence has been an issue in the past for me but I know I have the ability to be the best in the division, so it won’t take long to be right back in title contention after Saturday night.”

Lawrence’s ring return features on the explosive 2018 season opener at the Copthorne Effingham Park Hotel on Saturday February 3rd. For further information on the event call the box office on 0203 751 8599 or visit www.queensburyboxing.co.uk
