Queensbury Boxing League - Roman Ship comes out with second victory

Roman Ship scored a first round on the ‘True Grit’ bill.

Ship took on Paul Watts at the Effingham Park Hotel in Crawley, where the heavyweight improved his record to 2-0 within the QBL.

In the opening seconds Ship landed a good shot over the top however his opponent evaded any further trouble. Watts troubled Ship as he landed a good right hand however the Russian born heavyweight returned fire troubling his opponent with some heavy shots however he could not force the stoppage.

Ship almost ended the contest as he landed a clubbing right hand as Watts walked onto it with his hands down, leaving the Kent boxer with a cut above his eyebrow.

However, after Ship landed a heavy left hook followed by a right hand to the temple Watts was slumped to the canvas an unable to beat the referee’s count as the Oxford man clinched a second consecutive win.

“I’m happy I won and I came out with no damage,” Ship said. “He (Watts) started well and definitely has power but I don’t give up so I always knew I would finish it with my style.

“He was a very tough fighter, he took a lot of shots from me and was still going, when I saw the cut I knew the fight was over.” “I want to go as far as possible in the league, hopefully I’ll have title fight soon.”
