Super Middleweight rivals Terry Russell and Artur Gorka are closing in on the biggest showdown of their league careers in less than 2 weeks, when the Oxfordshire duo collide in a winner takes all clash in the main event of the Day Of Reckoning show at the Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey.
Russell, 21 from Wantage, will face the fearsome 24 year old Oxford based Pole Gorka for the vacant National Super Middleweight title on October 25th, and with the coveted title and local bragging rights all on the line, both contenders have promised to set the arena on fire when they step through the ropes.
Since joining the competition back in 2012, Gorka has become one of the divisions most feared competitors producing a string of impressive displays that culminated with the destruction of former title challenger Rossco Parker back in March at London’s iconic Alexandra Palace, whilst Russell produced a career best performance of his own last time out at the league's summer blockbuster Kings Of The Palace to beat former National champion Freddie Yemofio.
Talking ahead of the clash a confident Gorka said; “ Training is going well for the fight and come October 25th I’ll be ready to take the title.
“ Its going to be an interesting fight as Terry Russell looks strong and tough, but we’ll see how he copes with my power on the night.
And Queensbury Boxing League promotions director Alan Foley believes the showdown could be a contender for fight of the season when the duo meet in the centre of the ring at the competitions penultimate show of the season.
He added: “The showdown between Russell and Gorka represents one of the most exciting title fights at Super Middleweight we have seen in a long time in the competition, and all of the shows fans are excited to see this one.
“Artur Gorka showed last time out against Rossco Parker just why he is being touted as one of the divisions best becoming the first man ever to stop Parker inside the distance , but Terry Russell also proved a big point beating former champion Freddie Yemofio so it really is a 50/50 fight which either man could win.
“When you get two confident hungry fighters going up against each other with total belief in victory, that normally produces fireworks, and I really believe this fight has all the ingredients to be a classic.
