Former Queensbury national middleweight champion John Hefford say's the showdown for his old title between rivals Ben Davies and Joel "Smoke" Wanderema in the #ReisserHighStakes main event on Saturday May 14th is just "too close" to call.
The former champion was last in action back in November when he lost out to rival Gareth Gardner in dramatic fashion at the semi final stages of the inaugrual Reisser Quest Knockout Tournament, and after deciding to take a break from boxing and relinquish his title to concentrate on other commitments, Hefford says he is looking forward to spending some time on the other side of the ropes and watching both contenders collide for the title.
Talking to QBL TV about the impending collision Hefford said, " For me this really is a genuine 50/50 fight and I just can't pick a winner"
" I think Ben is an underrated fighter and he showed how good he is and how much he's improved last time out when he beat Bryan Richardson in a fight many people were picking Richardson to win"
" On the other side you've got Joel who's come into the league and fought right at the very top against all the best middleweights including Gareth Gardner, and you only have to look at his last fight when he pushed Quest winner Tey Lynn-Jones all they way to see his quality"
" If you look at each fighters strengths, Ben's boxing ability is underrated and he's got a great engine and can take a punch, and Joel has a good jab and carries power which he showed by rocking Gardner in his British title challenge"
"Usually you tend to edge towards one fighter in a contest like this, but I honestly can't split them and I won't be surprised if either of them win on the night"
Davies versus Wanderema will headline the packed Reisser High Stakes promotion taking place on Saturday May 14th at the millennium arena in West Sussex, and for ticket information call the Box Office on 0203 751 8599.
