Queensbury Boxing League - True Grit report

In another scintillating show, the league crowned four new champions while two defended their belts successfully on the ‘True Grit’ bill. 


Lee Cannon regained his former Regional light-middleweight title with a unanimous points victory over Wolf Griffiths however, his teammate Ricky James was outpointed by Kieron Harris for the National middleweight title. 


Louis Alexander caused an upset as he claimed the National cruiserweight title on points against Carl Kinslow however, his teammate Jordan Eason suffered a knockout defeat to Josh Whittington who picked up the novice middleweight strap. 


Ace Adams made a successful first defence of his National light-heavyweight title with a first round stoppage against Jack Avis, while the league’s only British champion, Alex Bellingham, defended his welterweight crown with a third round stoppage of Saquib Amir.  


Roo Abbott made a successful return to the league after almost three years out as he outpointed Matt Flavel, while his teammate Andrew Larkin debuted on the league with a win over Noble Dominic, Londoner Jimmy Haughney beat late replacement Will Murphy.


Former amatuer star Samuel Hamerston made a good start to his league career after outpointing Fidel Asudi, while fellow league debutant Joe Roswell showcased promising talent on the way to a decision win over the experienced Danny Newth.


Niall Nugent scored a second round knockout against Connor Cartwright, while heavyweight Roman Ship overcame an early scare against Paul Watts along the way to a first round stoppage. 


In a battle of league debutants Connor McGuinness narrowly outpointed Jack Clarke, and Gavin Roser took a split decision victory over Aaron Thomas. 


In female action Josie Carter beat Anna Beck via unanimous decision while Leanne Ball and Gemma Martin battled it out to a majority draw verdict.


Heavyweight Dave Choppin stopped Paul Horry inside one round, while in the opening bout of the card Hussein Mohungo showcased class and skill along the way to a unanimous decision victory over Seb Hallet. 


Light-heavyweight Anthony Moore took one round to stop Liam McKeown, while Napthali Lambert took a split decision victory over Charlie Connell in a dramatic final bout of the evening.
