Queensbury British Middleweight champion Gareth Gardner will now face Joel "Smoke" Wanderema in the main event of the league's hotly anticipated Unfinished Business promotion at the Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, after challenger Lloyd Miller was ruled out of the bout due to suffering a serious ankle injury in traning.
The undefeated champion will clash with Wanderema who was originally scheduled to face Middleweight debutant Khaliq Miah on the undercard of the Unfinished Business promotion before Miah pulled out citing training problems, and Gardner believes Wanderema could be a much tougher fight for him after originally preparing for a tall southpaw in Miller.
Talking after the change of opponent was confirmed today Gardner said: " I've seen Joel in action a few times in the league and he's like a mini version of Mike Tyson who comes forward and throws big powerful shots"
"Up till this week I've been preparing for a tall southpaw in Miller, but now I'm up against a much shorter orthodox figjhter who's a much more aggressive come forward style fighter, so I think this is going to be a tougher fight and I'm going to need to adapt quickly to that"
Wanderema's biggest win came at the expense of explosive puncher Faraz Akram back in February snapping the undefeated prospects winning run, and Gardner say's his showdown with Wanderema will be an exciting fight for the fans to witness.
" With Miller I was looking to be the aggressor and take the fight right to him, but with Joel I think I'll need to box more and show more of that side of my game"
"Its going to be nice to have someone come straight at me in this fight and I'm really looking forward to getting in there now and putting on a show"
