Queensbury novice Cruiserweight title contender Matt Hilliker say’s winning is the only thing that matters to him in the biggest fight of his career, as he prepares for his title shot on the league's Who Dares Wins promotion.
The 33 year old will be in action on Saturday February 6th, when he meets rival Gavin Shephard for a chance to claim the vacant belt at the millennium arena in West Sussex, and the Dartford stylist is preparing like a champion to ensure he returns to Kent as the champion.
Hilliker last laced the gloves on back in May on the Unfinished Business promotion beating Oxford heavyweight Matt Reeves in a convincing display at the Epsom racecourse in Surrey, but with a chance of becoming a Queensbury champion offered in the weight division below, the Dartford man needed little persuading to move back down to his old division and take up the challenge.
Talking ahead of the contest which features as the co main event at the league’s opening show of the season Hilliker said “ The only thing I’m focussed on right now is beating Gavin Shephard on February 6th, and how I win doesn’t really bother me”
“ I had a few problems in the past making the weight limit for Cruiserweight which affected my performances, and made me move up to heavyweight. But now that I’ve learned how to do the weight cut properly there should be no problems”
“ I don’t know too much about Shephard and what he’s like, but I do know he’s tall and has a much bigger reach than me so I’m going to have to cut that distance down and get inside to break him up.
“I’m training really hard for this one and mixing in the boxing, weights and lots of running to ensure I’m in the best shape I can be for the fight, so I’m not making any predictions on how I will win, but I know I will.
Hilliker’s title showdown will take place on Saturday February 6th in the Millennium arena at the Copthorne Effingham Park Hotel, and for further information on the rest of the stacked line up click HERE
